HCC Pharmacy Staffing is seeking Florida-licensed pharmacists for temporary, PRN and temp-to-perm assignments around Lake Okeechobee and through the Glades - Okeechobee, Clewiston, Moore Haven, LaBelle, Belle Glade, Pahokee, South Bay and Immokalee, plus Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie on the coast and Lake Placid inland. This is an ongoing search for several openings out here.
These are communities with very few pharmacists in them. If you live in the area, this is work close to home. If you do not, we are open to pharmacists who would travel for it - a block of consecutive days usually makes more sense than a single shift, and arrangements are worked out with you per assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the pharmacist on duty for the assigned shift
- Review, verify and dispense prescriptions accurately, including drug utilization review, dosing, renal and hepatic adjustment, interaction and duplicate-therapy checks
- Counsel patients on their medications - administration, adherence, side effects, interactions and OTC selection
- Check and supervise the work of pharmacy technicians and support staff
- Contact prescribers for clarifications, refill authorizations and therapeutic substitutions
- Handle controlled substances, recordkeeping and inventory per Florida and DEA requirements
- Process third-party claims, troubleshoot rejections and support prior authorizations
- Oversee inventory, ordering, returns, recalls and removal of expired product
- Administer immunizations where you are certified and the site offers them
- Maintain compliance with Florida Board of Pharmacy rules, HIPAA and the site's own policies and documentation
- Work as the only pharmacist on site, with a small support staff
- Support community health center dispensing where the assignment is a health center pharmacy
- Work with patients on affordability - assistance programs, formulary alternatives and adherence
Qualifications
- Active Florida pharmacist license in good standing, or a Florida license application in progress (required)
- PharmD or BS in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited program
- Working knowledge of Florida and federal pharmacy law, including controlled-substance requirements
- Proficiency with pharmacy dispensing software and e-prescribing, and the ability to pick up an unfamiliar system quickly
- Able to work independently as the pharmacist on duty, often with a small support staff
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and reliability - being there on time for a shift you accepted
- Clear, professional communication with patients, prescribers, technicians and facility staff
The settings, and why this region is different
Mostly safety net and rural: community health center pharmacies serving farmworker and underserved populations, rural hospital pharmacy, a state facility pharmacy, and independent small-town drug stores.
What kind of work this is
- Single-day and PRN relief, as often as suits you
- Recurring coverage - the same day or days at the same site, ongoing
- Longer blocks - vacation, leave, and coverage while a pharmacy recruits
- Temp-to-perm, when the pharmacy and the pharmacist both want it
How it works
You go on assignment through HCC. Assignments are independent-contractor (1099) engagements, and you tell us the radius, the days and the settings you want. License verification and standard screening are handled by our onboarding team after you apply.
Licensure requirements for Florida pharmacists are set by the Florida Board of Pharmacy under the Florida Department of Health.
