HCC Pharmacy Staffing is placing a full-time hospital pharmacist at an acute-care hospital pharmacy in Merrillville, Indiana. 40 hours a week, AM and PM shifts both available, and no overnight shifts — weekends rotate, nights do not come around. If you have built real inpatient and sterile compounding skill and have been waiting for a hospital role that does not ask for your nights back, this is that posting.

This is inpatient practice, not retail volume: order verification for admitted patients, IV admixture and sterile preparations out of the cleanroom, and the daily back-and-forth with nursing and prescribers that actually moves a patient's therapy forward. Merrillville sits at the center of the Northwest Indiana commute — Crown Point, Schererville, Hobart, Highland, Munster, Griffith, Dyer, St. John, Valparaiso, Portage, Gary, Hammond, East Chicago, Lowell and Cedar Lake are all a normal drive, and so are the Illinois line and Chicago's south suburbs. The assignment runs on Central Time.

What you'll do

  • Verify and process inpatient medication orders — dosing, renal and hepatic adjustment, interaction and duplicate-therapy review, and the clarification call when an order does not read right
  • Prepare and verify sterile products in the cleanroom: IV admixtures, piggybacks, syringes, large-volume infusions and patient-specific preparations, under the hospital's USP <797> policies and documentation
  • Handle hazardous drug preparations under the site's USP <800> procedures, including containment, PPE and documentation requirements
  • Check technician-prepared sterile products and support technician workflow and training through the shift
  • Answer clinical questions from nursing and prescribers in real time — dosing, compatibility, administration, substitution and formulary alternatives
  • Carry out antimicrobial and therapeutic interventions as the hospital's protocols provide for, and document them
  • Maintain controlled-substance records, dispensing documentation and automated dispensing cabinet oversight to Indiana standards
  • Participate in the pharmacy's part of code and emergency response according to the site's protocols
  • Keep the cleanroom's day-to-day compliance work current — competency documentation, environmental and cleaning logs, beyond-use dating

What we're looking for

  • Active Indiana pharmacist license in good standing — or an Indiana license application already in progress, including by reciprocity from Illinois
  • Inpatient hospital pharmacy experience. This one is a requirement, not a preference: the assignment expects someone who already knows how an inpatient order queue and a hospital formulary behave
  • Hands-on sterile compounding experience — IV admixture and cleanroom practice, with working familiarity with USP <797>. Also a requirement
  • Comfort with hazardous drug handling under USP <800> procedures
  • Working fluency in a hospital information system and automated dispensing cabinets
  • Availability for a rotating weekend, and a clear preference between the AM and the PM shift
  • Pluses, not gates: PGY1 training, BCPS or other board certification, sterile compounding certification, ACLS or BLS, and prior experience precepting technicians or students

Licensure requirements for pharmacists in Indiana are set by the Indiana Board of Pharmacy under the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency; check with them directly for anything specific to your own situation, including reciprocity timelines.

The schedule, plainly

  • 40 hours a week. Full-time hours, a full week — not occasional days.
  • AM and PM shifts are both available. We ask which you want and work to that; whichever you take is confirmed with you before you accept, not assigned afterward.
  • No overnight shifts. There is no third-shift rotation in this assignment.
  • Weekends rotate
